A working group called KarttaKompania has made the Karelian map to the well-known international IL-2 Sturmovik Great Battles flight simulator dating back to the Second World War. The map will be published in IL-2 Sturmovik flight simulator in August 2025.

We have collaborated with the Finnish Air Force Museum and private experts. For example, the most internationally known Finnish aviation historian Carl Fredrik Geust has made available to us his versatile and extensive archive of airfields and wartime aerial photographs.

Next IL-2 Sturmovik Sim Part: Siege of Leningrad!

KarttaKomppania's volunteer workforce has decreased over the past two years. Because of that, the amount of work in finishing the map has grown surprisingly large. Last spring, we finally reached an agreement that we Finns will complete the areas of Finland and the Karelian Isthmus that belonged to Finland before the Second World War.

The Russian map team of 1C Game Studios makes Leningrad and the southern side of the Gulf of Finland. It´s the historical area where the Siege of Leningrad was fought in 1941-1944. Cooperation is the best way to get the map ready by next summer 2025!

The Karelia map's flying area of the Karelian map is about 350km x 277km.

Most of the historical airfields, largest cities, towns, villages, urban areas and factories are already marked on the navigation map, but it is being updated all the time. By clicking on the map, it opens in another tab with full resolution.

Lappeenranta being built on the shore of Lake Saimaa

Last winter we did all the small settlements and church villages in the Finnish countryside. This summer we started building Finnish small cities and the first of them is Lappeenranta on the shore of lake Saimaa. It was an important airfield town where the airffield is located right next to the city. Fighter Squadron 24 operated from this field in the summer of 1944 when the Soviet's Great offensive began on Karelian Isthmus.

Landmark Buildings Under Construction

We have talented young architects of the future from Tampere University of Applied Sciences modeling buildings for their summer jobs. These and many other Landmark buildings in the cities of Karelia are nearing completion and will be on the map during 2024. The pictures show how dedicated our students are to this internship, which they also like very much!
